Amber or Amer Fort is situated at about eleven kilo meters from the city of Jaipur in the state of Rajasthan in India. The city of Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan. The Amber Fort was actually the bastion of the clan of Kachchawa. The fort served as their citadel until the clan made up their minds to transfer the seat of the government and the capital into Jaipur.

Amber Fort was originally only a part of the Fort of Jaigharh. Both these forts were connected with each other through a number of fortified secret passages. The original fort was constructed by the Meenas. The Meenas were said to be the actual inhabitants of this area.

The Amber Fort, as it stands now, was constructed later. The construction of this fort was commissioned by Raja Man Singh. Amber Fort is a significant pillar in Indian architecture, and is all the more notable because it is a perfect mixture of the styles from both Hindu and Muslin architecture.

Amber Fort is constructed of white and red sand stone. The exteriors are imposing and seem rugged and impenetrable. The rigged exteriors in fact belie the beauty of the interiors. The interior of the fort is simply magnificent, ornate as well as elegant. The  walls are filled with mirror works, mosaics, engravings, carvings, paintings, frescoes and murals that impart the grand look to the rooms.

Amber Fort has four parts into which it is separated. Each four parts can be accessed via a flight of stairs that is located in the center. Surajpol is the main entry point into Amber Fort, and this takes you to Jaleb Chowk, the chief courtyard here.

The stairs that lead to the palace is right here, and before these are the stairs that go to the renowned temple of Kali Mata. There are legends based on the building of the temple, and you can enjoy these while you visit.

In addition to the Temple and the courtyard, make sure that  you visit sites such as the  Dil – e – Aaram’ Garden, the Jas Mandir, the Sheesh Mahal, Ganesh Pol as well as the Diwan I Am.

While visiting the Amber Fort, make sure that you miss no attraction. One of the most fun things to do while on the tour of the Fort is riding on an elephant to the Fort. The feeling of being perched on an elephant and seeing the fort approaching in the distance is simply amazing, you feel like a king. Also, do not miss the sound and light shows.
